Playday in the Garden

Celebrate National Playday with an afternoon of creativity, play, and discovery designed for children and families. This special event takes place in a leafy museum garden and invites young participants to explore nature through design and imagination.
Drop-in activities will guide children through the Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden, where they can discover the biodiversity of the space—from bees and butterflies to worms and birds. Along the way, children will learn how thoughtful design can support and protect these creatures.
Activities include designing a mini garden, transforming into a bee or butterfly, learning how worms help the soil, and crafting a bird eatery.
This event is best suited for children aged 4 to 10. Workshops are not suitable for toddlers. Activities take place outdoors and will continue in light rain—please dress for the weather.
Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, children, young people, students, concessions, and members. Carers attend free of charge (please proceed to checkout to add a carer ticket). Pre-booking is required, as spaces are limited. Suitable for ages 4 and up. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible, ticket-holding adult.
