Next dates

Led by Christie Swallow, Design Researcher in Residence, this workshop introduces the history and creative process of cyanotype as a photographic medium and explores its artistic potential. Inspired by a visit to the Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden, the session will explore how design can work in harmony with nature.

Throughout the day, participants will experiment with sun and shadow to create cyanotype prints on paper and textiles. Using composition and collaging techniques, each participant will design and develop original, sustainable artworks. The session concludes with an opportunity to present work to the group and reflect on the creative journey.
At the end of the workshop, participants will take home a selection of unique cyanotype prints.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Creating light-sensitive compositions using sunlight and natural dyes
  • Preparing and processing cyanotype prints
  • Developing composition and collaging skills
  • Designing environmentally conscious artwork
  • Presenting and sharing creative processes

Additional information: Suitable for ages 11–14. Participants must be dropped off and collected by an adult. Capacity is limited; early booking is recommended. All materials, equipment, and light refreshments are provided. A packed lunch is required.
