Crofton Roman Villa
Crofton Roman Villa
Crofton Roman Villa was a large Roman-era farmhouse occupied from around AD 140 to 400, forming the centre of a 500-acre farming estate. Over its 260 years of use, the house underwent multiple alterations and likely expanded to at least 20 rooms. Today, visitors can see the remains of ten rooms under a protective modern building, including preserved concrete and tiled floors, as well as detailed features of the Roman underfloor heating system (hypocaust), showcasing both channelled and pillared designs.
